The Congress urged the Students toremain calm, stay in their hostels as the Union Executives will be going round to sensitise the Students on the rumours bearing in mind that the Second Semester resumes April 5th, 2021.

UNIVERSITY OF BENIN STUDENT’S CONGRESS
Solidarity Greetings to all conscious University Of Benin students.
On Saturday 27th of March 2021, was a memorable and important day for student struggle in the University of Benin. We had our first student congress of the session to deliberate on issues affecting us as a body of consequential students.
At the congress, the following resolutions were finalized;
1. 2019/20 first semester will end on the 1st of April, while the second semester commences on the 5th of April, 2021. This is in line with the valid academic calendar for the session, which serves as the constitutional framework for how an academic session is run, that is not to be altered by anyone, student or staff, except in matters of exigencies such as a state of emergency or a situation whereby a lawful Union (ASUU, NASU, SSANU) on campus are agitating for their rights.
2. Regarding the rumor that students are being asked to vacate the hostel, the congress came to a resolution to move around the hostels to sensitize and clarify such rumors.
Students paid hostel fee for a session and not a semester, and it would be a breach of contract telling students to pack in the middle of a session. The University calendar as adopted by the University Senate for the session did not in any way specify that students are to pack their luggages after a semester, hence students are to remain calm with their properties in their hostels while they bear in mind that resumption for the second semester is on the 5th April 2021.
3. Any attempt to autocratically and forcefully subject us, students, to illegalities will be resisted within legal and conventional means. Our primary purpose in this University is our academics, we will not allow such to be debased as an alternative on the university scale of preference.
Academics is Number 1, without the students, the university will not exist.
The student congress came together to protect and promote the interest of its members, and the congress will consciously walk in that line of duty. The resounding echo of solidarity and readiness to defend the interest of students is overwhelming, and we admonish every one of us to remain resolute and unwavering in solidarity as one till the end. Remember, Solidarity makes us stronger.
Greatest Uniben Students!, We have heard and have seen your agitation, we know you are verily ready to #occupy in defending your right.
“Every Generation out of a relative opacity will discover its purpose, they can either betray or fulfill it” – Frantz Fanon.
In this very generation, we have discovered and seen the agenda to frustrate academic activities, and we will stand resolute as patriotic students to win this struggle against undue interference that seek to kill or ridicule our education.
In this struggle, *EDUCATION MUST WIN.
